Every September, On Lok honors National PACE Month – an annual observance that celebrates the work of PACE staff across the country which enables seniors to age at home and in their communities.
PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) is in our DNA. Through a series of successful waivers and demonstrations, On Lok launched the integrated care and financing model that later became known as PACE and led a successful national replication. Along with founding the National PACE Association, On Lok established the groundwork for federal legislation that made it a permanent part of the Medicare program and a Medicaid option for states.
Often referred to as the “gold standard” of care for older adults, PACE provides all Medicare and Medicaid services to seniors 55 years of age and older who require a nursing home level of care but want to live at home. Today, the program we pioneered continues growing across the nation, now serving over 70,000 seniors in 32 states. On Lok PACE proudly serves over 1,800 seniors in San Francisco, Southern Alameda and Santa Clara counties.
Our leadership continues through our work with NPA as we continue to promote advocacy and innovation for the PACE model. I am proud to serve as NPA Board Chair and continue the very important work On Lok began over five decades ago.
Participants who receive care from On Lok PACE can rely on our team members who are dedicated to providing them with compassionate, high-touch care, that empowers dignity and independence. We are excited to share this dedication and passion with you not only during the month of September, but all-year round.
Aging is a journey that should unfold within the familiarity of one's community and alongside loved ones. I have witnessed firsthand how On Lok PACE changes lives and supports seniors and their families. The theme for this year’s National PACE Month, “PACE: Where You Belong,” is a great reminder that PACE is a program that fully supports seniors as they age and at On Lok, it’s where seniors embrace life.
Fifty-two years ago, the founders of On Lok were ahead of their time, creating a solution to address the needs of our diverse senior communities. On Lok continues the work through expansion, innovation and advocacy on behalf of seniors.
