Aging Mastery Program (AMP)

Location: Online or in-person

We are living longer than previous generations. The Aging Mastery Program® (AMP), created by the National Council on Aging and presented by On Lok, is a 10-week virtual course to help you make the most of your longevity.

Join other adults 55+ and learn real skills for living the years ahead to the fullest, taught by experts in the following topics:

  • Navigating Longer Lives

  • Exercise and You

  • Falls Prevention

  • Healthy Eating and Hydration

  • Sleep and the Brain

  • Medication Management

  • Healthy Relationships

  • Financial Fitness

  • Advance Planning

  • Community Engagement

This program is offered to San Francisco Bay Area residents age 55+.

Tai Chi for Arthritis - In-person classes, in English

Date/Time: February 4 – April 10, 2025 Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m

Location: Classes will take place in the beautiful garden at On Lok 30th Street Senior Center, 225 30th Street in San Francisco, between Church and Mission Dolores. If the weather is too cold or rainy, the class will move indoors.

Instructor: Diana Lara-Rodgers

Studies have found that the program decreases pain and improves physical function in people with osteoarthritis of the hips or knees by increasing muscular strength and flexibility.

We encourage you to participate in as many classes as possible to learn the form and graduate from the program. The curriculum of the classes in based on Sun style tai chi, which is a gentle type of tai chi.

Fall Prevention

Date/Time: Monday and Thursday 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Location: Virtual

The purpose of the Fall Prevention Program is to help seniors develop strength, flexibility, balance and gait to prevent debilitating falls. This virtual educational workshop program is designed especially for individuals who have fallen in the past and helps teach seniors how to stay safe while maintaining an independent lifestyle.

Body Dynamics

Date/Time: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 10 am - 11:30 am

Location: In-Person

This class includes moderate to high intensity exercises using weights, resistance tubing, stretching, and balance movements. In the first hour segment, the class will focus on breathing for stress reduction, balance, flexibility, and strength using body weight, hand weights, and/or therabands.

The cardio section is predominant in this class to encourage cardiorespiratory endurance. Once the first hour is complete, there is an optional 30-minutes of class time dedicated to more intense strength and flexibility components. Participants must be able to perform standing exercises for the duration of the class.

"Café con Leche" es un grupo psico-educacional donde nos reunimos por teléfono cada semana. En él, compartimos, y nos apoyamos los unos a los otros. Es un espacio en el cual conectamos y hablamos de diferentes temas como maneras de manejar la ansiedad, maneras de mantenernos positivos, y muchas otras cosas.

Chair Yoga

Date/Time: Wednesdays, 2:30 – 3:30pm

Location: In-person

This gentle flow of Chair Yoga is designed to improve flexibility, balance, strength, and coordination while boosting your mood, and releasing stress. Chair yoga is done while sitting and some poses can be done standing or on the floor using a chair for support. At the end of this practice you will experience a deep state of relaxation, and connection in between your mind, body in spirit. This practice includes meditation. During the class, many variations of the poses are explained for better comfort and level.

Conversation Circle

Conversation Circle" is a psychoeducational group where we meet via Zoom every other week, and share, and support each other during this unprecedented time. It is a space where we can connect and talk about different topics including how to manage anxiety, how to stay positive, how to connect to others, and many others.
