Activities at On Lok PACE engage the whole person— mind, body, and spirit. Our whole-person approach addresses our participants' medical and functional needs, including their emotional, cognitive, and social well-being.

Activity Therapy uses meaningful engagement to enhance quality of life, foster connections, and support health goals. Our activity therapists and leaders conduct assessments to understand our participants' interests, strengths, and challenges. We learn about their living situation, passions, and what brings them joy. Whether it's tai chi, painting, poetry, or karaoke, we want every experience to nurture the whole person and honor their personal journeys and abilities.

Awakening a 'superpower'

Many participants have chronic health conditions that can make communication difficult and worsen feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression. As we age, we believe everyone has untapped potential— what we call their "superpower". By tailoring activities to the individual, we can boost their confidence, nurture their vitality, and help them find a sense of purpose.

Our activity program uses music, movement, and creative expression to break through barriers. Music-based exercise and dance are adapted for participants with limited mobility. These activities provide universal ways to connect across the languages and cultures of our diverse community. Rhythm, melody, and movement help us create safe, inclusive spaces where participants can express themselves.

Our Lunar New Year and lion dance celebrations at each On Lok PACE center were excellent examples of this work. This traditional event combined artistic expression with movement and music, and it engaged participants of all abilities, evoking memories, sparking creativity, improving mobility, and fostering a sense of connection.
